The Benn Banks Memorial Scholarship Winner Is…
When reviewing all of the applications, it was clear to us that the student-athletes in our community are passionate, hardworking, and have outstanding character. We were very impressed with and thankful for all of the individuals who applied; we wish we could choose more than one recipient. We’re pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s Benn Banks Scholarship is Meredith Lakis from Rogers Heritage High School!
As a student-athlete, Meredith shows nothing short of dedication. Throughout high school she played basketball, ran track, and one season decided to spontaneously try out volleyball. Despite the fun she had that season, she decided to focus on her record-setting track career, but more so her passion for basketball. Meredith has played basketball the majority of her life, spending countless Saturdays at tournaments and many afternoons at practice. She accredits many of her closest friendships to the sport.
Off the court, Meredith is a well rounded community member, as was Benn. Academically, she was Vice President of National Honor Society, a member of Debate and Forensics, and held a GPA of 4.1. Being active in her community, she has coached little league soccer, continues to aid in Vacation Bible School at her church, and helps set up each year for Race for a Cure. Extracurricularly, she was an Orange & Blue Spirit Leader at school pep-rallies and football games this year, and is the voice of Heritage’s baseball games. Outside of all of that, she also currently works at HighRise and the Natural’s Ballpark.
Just like Benn, Meredith inspires excellence on and off the field. Although she will not be continuing her athletic career into college, Meredith is looking forward to studying Sports Media at Oklahoma State University this fall with hopes of one day becoming a Public Relations Specialist for a basketball team. Natural State is honored to be able to award this scholarship on Benn’s behalf. Again, thank you to everyone who applied, and congratulations to Meredith!
