FAQ

  • Lawn Care

    • How long do I have to wait before my pet and I can get on the lawn after having our lawn treated?

We generally recommend giving the product we’ve applied plenty of time to dry before allowing kids or pets back onto the lawn. This generally means at least 30-45 minutes.

    • We generally recommend giving the product we’ve applied plenty of time to dry before allowing kids or pets back onto the lawn. T

When we begin treating a lawn, the timeline of improvement is one of the most difficult aspects of treatment to predict. Improving a lawn is a process, and requires proper mowing and watering in addition to Natural State’s fertilization and weed control plan in order to see full results. Every lawn is different– soil, water, and the changes in seasons all have an impact. We usually recommend keeping the service for at least a year to see the full results.

    • What do I do if I have concerns about my lawn?

That depends on what kind of lawn you have! For bermudagrass lawns, the seven treatments are two rounds of pre-emergent in the late winter and early spring, three rounds of fertilization throughout the warmer months, and two rounds of pre-emergent in the fall. Each round will include post-emergent (where we spray visible weeds).

For Fescue or Zoysia lawns, our service includes two pre-emergents at the end of the winter and early spring, one round of fertilization, two rounds of fungicide, followed by two more rounds of pre-emergents in the fall. Each round will include post-emergent (where we spray visible weeds).

    • I had my lawn sprayed for weeds but the weeds don’t look dead. What’s going on?
The herbicides we use to treat for weeds are not an instant kill. They are designed to kill the whole weed down to the root, which is more effective than some over-the-counter herbicides, which just damage the above-ground plant without killing the entire organism. After having your yard treated, give the product a few days to work before mowing for maximum effectiveness. But don’t worry– if you’re still seeing weeds 2-3 weeks after your service, give us a call and we’ll get the problem addressed for you.
    • How often do you treat my lawn? Once a month?

Our Weed N’ Feed program includes 7 treatments over the course of the year, serviced every 4-6 weeks. Services usually begin in February and wrap up in late October or November. Due to shifts in the weather and the season, our treatment cadence may vary. If you have any questions about your treatment schedule, give us a call!

    • Does pulling weeds make them worse? Will it spread weed seeds in my yard?
Pulling weeds can be tempting, but we don’t believe it’s a good idea. Certain weeds, like nutsedge, will be worsened by pulling. Uprooting weeds can dislodge buried seeds in the soil as well as damage the turf when the roots of the weed are pulled up, and weeds with larger taproots (like dandelions) are especially damaging. If you need a spot spray while your service is active, you can request it from our office. Once the weeds have been treated, give it a few days and then mow your yard– this is the best way to eliminate them without the risk of the weed reseeding.
    • What if it rains after my lawn or trees and shrubs are treated?
No problem! We know your lawn and outdoor foliage will get rain throughout the year. As long as the treatment is given time to dry, your service will still be effective. For fertilization rounds, receiving rain after treatment is actually a huge plus! It waters in the fertilizer so you don’t have to. If our technicians are treating and the weather will compromise the treatment, they know to call the office and have the appointment rescheduled for a dry day.
  • General Pest Control

    • What should I expect from my first pest service?
When you call Natural State Pest Control, the representative will take your address and basic information and schedule an initial appointment. They’ll collect basic information about the pest problem you’re experiencing– when it began, what pests you’re noticing, and the areas where you’re seeing the most activity. Once the pest technician arrives at your home or business, they’ll look at the areas of concern as well as the layout of the property. This will help them find the most effective method of treatment and build a plan to get rid of your pest issue. They will note entry points for the pests, use products to contain the problem, and book follow up appointments if needed.
    • I signed a Service Agreement before my service. Is this a contract? Am I locked into paying this?
Nope! Natural State Pest Control does not have contracts. We don’t believe in locking you into a service you may not need in the future. It’s one thing that makes Natural State different from our competition. We understand people move, financial situations change, and you never really know where you’ll be next year. Our Service Agreements are there to show you your pricing, cadence of services, and other information about your treatments. At Natural State Pest Control, your services can be cancelled at any time, for any reason, with no penalty. All you have to do is notify our office.
    • I just had my house treated, but now I’m seeing more bugs! What’s going on?

It’s not uncommon for our customers to report seeing more bugs in the days after receiving a treatment, especially their first treatment. This is because the products we use will disturb the pest’s environment. This is actually a sign that the treatments are working effectively! As pest populations move around in your home, they’re more likely to come into contact with the products that will eliminate them. If it’s been 7 days after your treatment and you’re still seeing increased activity, just let us know. We offer free reservices for our recurring clients for this reason– sometimes it takes a few treatments to knock down pest populations.

    • I got a Prep Sheet when I called about a pest control service. What’s this document for?
We send Prep Sheets for some of our services. Their purpose is to give you an idea of what to expect on the day your treatment is performed. We may ask that you do a few things before your treatment: remove outlet plates, wash and dry your bedding, or move furniture items in your home. Reading and following the prep sheet before your day of service helps us provide you with the most effective treatment possible, as well as giving you an idea of what to expect in the days after your service is completed.
    • When’s the best time to start treatments?

If you’re seeing signs of a pest problem, it’s always best to act quickly rather than letting it get worse. A good rule of thumb is that if you can see one pest, there are probably two more in the area that you can’t see. For certain issues, like cockroaches or mice/rats, this is especially important– the rapid reproductive rate of these pests means that they can reach infestation levels very quickly after being noticed. The sooner a professional can address the problem, the sooner we can get it resolved for you. It’s much easier to prevent a pest issue from getting bad than it is to resolve a bad infestation.

    • How do I know if I need a professional?

As professionals, we’re of course biased toward using a licensed pest technician to protect your home before you develop a problem. But if you find yourself with a pest problem, you’ll know you need a professional based on what pest you’re seeing. If you’re only seeing the occasional cricket or house centipede, you may not need professional services. But for especially stubborn pests, or pests who carry dangerous diseases, it’s worth the guarantee that a professional pest company can provide. That group includes (but is not limited to): mice and rats, brown recluse spiders, black widow spiders, wasps, cockroaches, fleas and ticks, and, of course, bedbugs. Each of these pests require either a professional service to be treated appropriately or can pose serious health risks if the infestation is not managed.

    • How long do I have to wait before my pet and I can enter a treated area?

This is one of our most commonly asked questions. For our general pest service, as long as our product is given adequate time to dry, you and your pets are okay to reenter the area. Instructions may be different for services like interior flea treatments or brown recluse treatments. If you have any questions, you can always ask the technician that’s performing the treatment or call our office.

    • Is your service kid and pet friendly?

At Natural State Pest Control, we’re always striving to treat as safely as possible for you, your family, your pets, and the environment. We ensure our technicians adhere to state and federal safety standards for every treatment we offer. If you have concerns about the safety of our treatments, you can always call our office for additional information.

    • Are pest control services bad for the environment?

Any good pest control company practices what’s called Integrated Pest Management, which means they’ll use a multi-pronged approach to solve pest problems while keeping the environment in mind. At Natural State Pest Control, we don’t use pesticides and insecticides carelessly. We’ll always do what we can to use as little as possible and apply our products in a way that minimizes the chance of unwanted exposure to non-target organisms. In addition to good application, we’re always on the lookout for innovations in technology that leave less of an environmental footprint. We switched to Sentricon Termite Bait Stations for this reason– they’re only toxic to termites, which means we don’t have to worry about doing damage to the soil around your home like a traditional termite spray.

    • What do I do if I see bugs or pests in between my regular visits?

Give us a call! If you’re in between visits but notice new pest activity, always let us know! We offer free reservices with all of our programs for this reason. Some pests won’t be affected by our regular treatments unless we know they’re present at your home, like wasps or rodents. Let us know if something changes so we can address it for you!

    • Do your services come with a warranty?

Almost all of our services include a warranty. All of our recurring service plans, The Home Defense, Home Defense Bronze, Home Defense Gold, and Home Defense Platinum include unlimited service calls for use in between your scheduled services. This means if you notice any pest activity while the plan is active, you’re covered. Just notify our office and we’ll get a technician to come treat you as soon as possible– at no additional cost to you. Think of it like a subscription that keeps you covered!

For our One-Time services, we include a 30 day warranty and include retreatments upon request. If you think you would benefit from another treatment or would like a technician to come by and take another look, just let us know! We’ll get someone out to take care of your issue as soon as possible.

    • I paid for my initial service, but now I got another charge. What’s going on?
Our recurring services include an initial charge and a monthly billing. We think of this as breaking up the cost of services over the course of the year into a smaller monthly billing. Our intention is to make it easier for customers to access the pest control services that make for healthy, happy homes. If you have any questions about your billing, call our office at 1-479-927-6350, we’re always happy to help.
    • I was quoted a different price for my service than what’s listed on the website. Why is my pricing different?
Most of our customers have the standard pricing. Any differences in pricing is usually due to including additional servicing areas (like adding a shed or guest house) or homes/businesses over a certain square footage. If you have any questions about your pricing, call our office to speak with one of our customer service representatives, they can answer any question about your service that you may have.
    • What if it rains after my house or yard is treated for bugs?
No worries! This is one of our most commonly asked questions. We treat with products that have a residual effect, meaning that they create a barrier that will kill bugs for up to 90 days after application (depending on the product and application). These products aren’t washed away by rain, but are baked off by the UV rays in sunshine. As long as the product is given adequate time to dry before the rain starts, the product will be effective for the entire residual period. If it starts raining while our technicians are treating, they know to call our office and have the appointment rescheduled if there’s any question about the treatment’s effectiveness.
    • I just had a Brown Recluse treatment and I’m seeing even more of them! What do I do?
It’s not uncommon for our customers to note an increase in Brown Recluse activity after their service. Brown Recluses are timid and prefer to hide (hence the name recluse), but after coming into contact with the product used in the service, they’re often flushed out of their hiding places. If you’d like a technician to come by and take a look at the activity you’re seeing, just let us know– we can always send a technician to your home to help.
    • Does Natural State remove bees?
Natural State does not currently offer bee removal services. If you’re having issues with bees on your property, don’t spray them or harm them– we have the name of multiple beekeepers we can provide you. Call our office at 1-479-927-6350 and we can direct you to licensed, responsible beekeepers that can help you take care of your problem without endangering pollinators.
    • Are rodent bait boxes and snap traps safe around pets?
This is one of our most commonly asked questions. When our technicians are inspecting a home for rodent activity, they’ll make note of any pets and adjust their treatment plan accordingly. We’ll make sure the equipment is out of reach of your pets. There are always concerns about secondary poisoning (if your pet eats a poisoned mouse/rat), but it is unlikely that the animal would have eaten enough poison to be dangerous to your pet. However, in the unlikely case that this were to occur, veterinarians have options to treat your pet.
  • Termites

    • Is DIY termite treatment better than professional termite control?
DIY termite treatment can be less effective and more time-consuming than professional treatment, as professional pest control companies have the experience, expertise, and equipment to properly diagnose and treat termite infestations. Contact Natural State today for the best termite treatment in Arkansas, guaranteed!
    • How to tell if you have termites in your walls?

There are several signs that can indicate the presence of termites in your walls:

      1. Swarming: Termites often swarm in the spring, and you may see large numbers of winged insects around your windows or near light sources.
      2. Sounds: Termites can make a faint clicking or tapping sound within the walls.
      3. Mud tubes: Termites build mud tubes as a protected pathway from the ground to their food source. If you see mud tubes on the exterior of your home, it may indicate an infestation.
      4. Damage: If you see any signs of damage to the wooden structures in your home, such as hollow-sounding wood, buckling, or blistered paint, it may indicate that termites are present.
      5. Frass: Frass is termite droppings that are pushed out of the mud tubes and can often look like sawdust or coffee grounds.

If you suspect you have termites in your walls, it is important to have a professional inspection to determine the extent of the infestation and to provide an effective treatment plan.

    • Do termites come back after treatment?
Termites can return after treatment if the treatment was not effective or if new colonies move into the treated area. It is important to follow the recommended steps for preventing termites, such as removing moisture sources and maintaining proper ventilation, to reduce the likelihood of a re-infestation.
    • I’m selling my house, and I was told I need a termite policy. What do I need to do?
If you’re selling your home, the state of Arkansas usually requires a termite inspection on the property. They’ll also require the seller to provide the buyer with a 1-year termite policy. When you’re preparing to close on the sale and have picked out a title company, make sure that the title company sends over a Termite Request Form to get a termite inspection scheduled. Your title company does this all the time, so they’ll know what to do! Once the technician performs the inspection, he’ll fill out a WDIR (Wood Destroying Insect Report) with his findings. The title company will provide this paperwork at the time of closing. Once we’ve received the final paperwork after the home has been sold, we’ll transfer the termite policy into the name of the new homeowner. If you have any additional questions about termite transfers, you can call our office for additional information.
    • What’s a WDO (Wood Destroying Organism) or a WDIR (Wood Destroying Insect Report), and how do I get one?

A Wood Destroying Insect Report is a document that includes the findings of a termite inspection that a seller must provide to a buyer when selling a home. This will disclose if there is an active termite infestation in the home or if the termite technician found conducive conditions for termite issues. If you’re selling your home and need to provide a termite policy to the buyer, have your title company reach out to us to perform the inspection and provide the proper paperwork. If you have any questions, you can call our office for more information.
